Week 1 · Reset · Day 1 of 30

Decide the experiment

Turn "maybe I should cut back" into a dated experiment you can finish.

About 8 minutes. Five parts: listen, do, a tool, notice, finish.

Sources for this day

  • Mehta et al., BMJ Open, 2018. 94 healthy moderate-to-heavy drinkers who stopped for a month compared with 47 who kept drinking. Dependence and known liver disease were excluded. Observational, not randomized.
  • Strowger et al., Alcohol and Alcoholism, 2025. 16 studies and more than 150,000 participants, mostly in the United Kingdom. Benefits for people who finished and for many who cut down. A minority who could not finish reported drinking more afterward.
  • IARC classification of alcoholic beverages. Group 1 describes the strength of the evidence that something can cause cancer. It does not describe the size of the risk for any one person.
  • World Health Organization, 2023. The WHO position is that no level of alcohol consumption is safe for health, particularly regarding cancer risk.

Educational health content for adults. It is not medical care, detox, therapy or treatment. If you drink heavily every day or have had withdrawal symptoms, talk to a doctor before stopping. Is it safe for me to stop?
